Empire of the Ants…

Happy Thursday Fellow Bloggers!

I’m bucking the system. I will not discuss Olympics, election drama, Chick-fil-A boycotting, mass murders, Kim Kardashian or the unfolding Jackson Family UN-REAL-ity Show. Today I come to you to discuss a far more serious topic. Ants.

Now, I consider myself a pretty rational person (a statement that typically precedes a subsequential irrational statement), but when given a choice between a house infested with roaches and a house infested with ants…give me roaches. I know, I know: roaches carry germs, diseases, yada yada yada, but when you consider how easily roaches can be killed, it’s a no brainer. Besides…I think ants are Communists. Actually, I’m pretty sure they are. If you don’t believe me, read Bernard Werber’s Les Fourmis or H.G. Wells’ Empire of the Ants…I’m just saying. You may call it science fiction, but think about it; what do you call a colony of anything that involves:

  •  all members looking exactly the same;
  • all working, but not sharing an equal workload yet everyone receives equal and fair compensation;
  • what you will do with your life (your job) is pretty much decided for you at birth;
  • no one OWNS the hill. It’s everyone hill. A COMMUNAL hill,if you will;

Com’mon…that’s classic Communism people! [Or perhaps socialism at best, but I like the sound of Communism better. It makes ants sound more sinister and what are they if not sinister, praytell?] Plus, they get in my sugar. Me no like-ey.

Over the last few weeks I’ve noticed ants scouting around the house here and there and I’ve asked my dear hubby several times to call pest control. Like many men, he’s not good at following through on instructions. Thus the problem has, as problems tend to, gotten worse. Hence, this is what my afternoon looked like yesterday:

True story.

If you wonder what all of this means, I’ll tell you. I said all of that to say this: I skipped my workout yesterday. What??? I was really stressed out after the ant attack, and I just couldn’t do it. Beyond that, I was exhausted, not feeling well, and pretty bummed about what my scale is telling me.

Could it be that Insanity isn’t all I hoped it would be? Today marks the end of four weeks on the program and I’m SERIOUSLY thinking the “HCG then back to Insanity” option is my best bet. We’ll see how I feel tonight and I’ll let you know tomorrow.

Psuper Psycho

I took this photo in San Francisco at Ripley’s Believe It or Not. I used this photo because a) I like it and b) because it’s how I’ve felt for the past 4 days. Really, I’m all over the place…in a good way.

I wondered what to title today’s post to make it indicative of all the million things I want to talk about. Then I realized that I want to talk about a million things because a million things are going on in my head right now. Why? Because I am SUPER charged. I mean I don’t know where my stores of energy are coming from, but I’m betting it’s this workout routine. By my calculations, I am 24 days into Insanity today (if I count the two extra workouts I did two days before Iofficially started).

Friday’s workout was pretty intense and I didn’t finish it until 9 pm. Afterwards I was amazingly invigorated and pretty pumped. My best friend will tell you how unlike me this is, but I decided to go dancing…on a Friday! I had a blast, but of course that was a second workout. Hip gyrating can really take it out of ya!

Needless to say I woke up drained on Saturday, but I got my ass in gear and cleaned house. Not that namby pamby cleaning that they do on commercials with a Swiffer Sweeper and a roll of Brawny paper towels…oh no…I’m talking deep down bleaching the baseboards and disinfecting the tile floors with a mop and a bucket of Fabuloso-type cleaning! The house smelled like Clorox, Pinesol, Fabuloso, Pledge (hey, those are good plugs, shouldn’t I be getting paid something?), and sweet and sour chicken [because I was simultaneously cooking lunch while everyone was still sleeping].

Fast forward to Saturday night. Against my better judgement, we took the kids to see Dark Knight. Insert tangent here —>I refuse to be held hostage by fear that another crazy person might go on a rampage and shoot up the theatre that I’m in. That’s probably what he wanted and he won’t get it from me. <— end tangent. Anyway, what was I saying? Oh yeah, when I finally got home around midnight I was drained. I DID NOT want to work out and my dear hubby suggested that it wouldn’t hurt to miss a workout. That comment snapped me out of it. I begged to differ. I haven’t missed a workout yet, and I didn’t want to let that kind of “excuse-making” become a mantra, sooooo at midnight-thirty I popped the plyometric cardio circuit DVD in and went to work. I gave it 110%, and after that I was down for the count.

Sunday morning I woke up completely energized again and went downstairs before anyone was up to work in the garden. Insert tangent #2 here —-> I’m happy to report that my roses, hibiscuses, hydrangeas, rhododendrons, and impatiens are doing quite well and blooming like there’s no tomorrow. My tomatoes are not faring so well, but they’re putting up a valiant effort! My sweet potatoes are going in the ground this week, t0o. I’m pretty excited about that..and as I prattle on I feel like a total lame, but I’d honestly forgotten how much I enjoy growing things. I remember working in the garden with my Papaw as a kid and I’m happy Macy (my  3 y/o) enjoys working outside with Mommy.<—- end tangent #2.

Anyhow, while I’m happy Sunday was an “off day” on the Insanity program, I felt like my garden work was a workout in itself. I was unbearably sore, but I woke up this Monday morning feeling great, and quite frankly looking forward to my first week 4 workout!  No burn-out yet and I’m excited to take/post my week four pictures!

Psychedelically Yours,

P.S. How long does it typically take you to experience burn-out on your workout routine? For me it’s usually around week 2.5. I think that’s why I’m so excited about this program?
Kickass Quote of the Day: Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, latte in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, “Woooo hooo! What a RIDE!!!”

Fit Test Monday…BEAST MODE!

So yesterday marked the beginning of Week 3 of Insanity. That means last night I had to do my fit test. Sounds easy, but this test is a major workout in itself. So without further ado…here are my results:

Week 1

Week 2

1. Switch Kicks
2. Power Jacks
3. Power Knees
4. Power Jumps
5. Globe Jumps
6. Suicide Jumps
7. Push-up Jacks
8. Low Plank Obliques
I’m so ‘effin proud of myself, and to treat myself, I decided to dye my hair…black. It’s only temporary. I just wanted to try something different. Here it is!
On a side note…I find that I really dislike the warm-up and cool-down periods. I know they’re important, and so I do them out of necessity, but I REALLY lack the patience for them. Must they last so long???
So for today’s workout and for my next fit test, I plan to record it and post the video so you guys can see how intense it really is. Till then, here’s my “Motivational Quote of the Day”: Life isn’t about finding yourself. It’s about CREATING yourself.
Testily Yours

Dear Gods of Fitness…

…why do you torment me? I am sooooo tired. Tuesday night I worked out with my BIL & SIL. It wasn’t so bad, but last night, I REALLY wanted to skip the workout. Still, I pushed myself and did it (Plyometric Cardio Circut). I did better than last week, but it was still hard to see it through till the end. I was proud of myself and today I even noticed that my calves are getting some really nice new definition. The same goes for my abs. (I stood in the mirror after my workout doing mock-belly dancing to see the “cuts”…I know…pitiful, but I needs must entertain myself somehow.)

Confession: I had a horrible salad for lunch yesterday and couldn’t finish it so for dinner I ended up at Chili’s with a Maragarita and enchilada soup and southwestern eggrolls. I could just kick myself! I choose to focus on the positive though – I surpassed my goal of 64 oz of water and actually had closer to 100 oz. To top it off, after my workout yesterday I did some weight work for my shoulders, triceps, core and legs. (Go Frenchgyrl! Go Frenchgyrl!)

I feel really good. I’ve only lost about 6lbs in 2 weeks, but I think that has a lot to do with the muscle I’m building. I can see some difference, but it’s nothing major. I think I got used to the HCG diet and it’s quick results. I do plan to solicit help to take my measurements to that I can see what my true results are and not rely on weight loss.

Speaking of the HCG diet…the friend who shall remain nameless began her 1st round yesterday. I’m so excited for her. I know her results are gonna be phenomenal! Based on someone else’s results, I’ve decided upon an Isanity/HCG combo. I’ve made a commitment to complete my first four weeks of Insanity and move on to my 26 day round of HCG. After which I will pick up on Insanity again. It seems to have worked for lmiller0709 so it’s worth a try. I aim to reach 135 lbs by the end of the summer (a loft goal, I know). To see LMiller0709’s results click here.

Anyway, I’m psyched. I know I can do it. I want a body that I (and my hubby) can be proud of. Wish me (and the friend who shall remain nameless) continued success!

My motivational quote for today: “The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.”

 I know it’s possible for me to loose weight…is it possible for me to become truly  fit by the end of September? I say it is! Here goes nothing…or better yet, everything…

Piously Yours,

It’s not called INSANITY cause it’s easy…

(Found my original post…and even though I already posted the other one, I’m posting this one too, so there!)

Okay, so I’m going in blind. I’ve never blogged or followed a blog, but last week I started Shaun T’s Insanity and I think the best way to keep myself on track is to write about it. Accountability and all that jazz…

Week one was a BEAST! I did better than I expected on the fitness test, but I have to point out that my schedule was a little different than what is prescribed by the program:

Friday – I just did my typical ab work today and got on the treadmill at an incline of 10 for 40 minutes. I also ordered my second round of HCG today. (I lost about 24 pounds last October on it, and did a great job keeping it off until I hit a rough patch in life earlier this year. Gained 10 lbs back and I’m determined to put a stop to it.) My ultimate goal is to loose 24 lbs. I’m ashamed to tell you where I am now, but I’m working on it.

Saturday – I’m a ROCKSTAR! I tried out the Pure Cardio today. Not too bad. I think I did okay. This ain’t your grandma’s aerobics though. I think I left a gallon of sweat on my living room floor.

Sunday – I tried the Cardio Abs alone. Pretty fast (15 minute) workout, but I realize now that during week two it will be done in conjunction with Pure Cardio…not so fun.

Monday – Fit Test (I sucked pretty hard)

Tuesday – Plyometric Cardio Circut (Mikki, my 13 year old daughter, did the work out with me and I must say I felt pretty good about myself. She couldn’t keep up with me…I’m of course ignoring the fact that she’d just finished her second day of intense gymnastics practice.)

Wednesday – Oh the pain!!! While still aching from Tuesday’s workout I pressed through Cardio Power & Resistance

Thursday – I’m not sure why they call this day Cardio Recovery. I don’t feel recovered.

Friday – Pure Cardio. Not much strength training here, but I’m feeling the pain because this is SERIOUS cardio!

Saturday – Plyometric Cardio Circuit again. I’m dying here. I’m on vacation, and it’s a good thing because I’m finding myself able to sleep in for the first time in YEARS!

Sunday – Finally. An off day. Actually, I felt like a slob sitting around all day on a rainy Sunday, so I ended up doing some free-weights. I hope it doesn’t negatively effect my results.

So, my HCG is being delivered today. I ordered three rounds so I’m giving one to my girl friend (this in exchange for the use of her Insanity Set). I struggled with whether to do the HCG round first then Insanity or vice versa. There’s a downside to each one. I can’t do them at the same time because HCG doesn’t allow for any over-exertion. I think I’m going to do 30 days of Insanity (for definition) then start my HCG for the 28 days and then pick up Insanity again. Unless my results with Insanity are SO freaking amazing that I can’t see myself not pushing through. We shall see! Week 1 down.

Tomorrow I’ll upload my before shots as well as some week one fitness session photos and my diet plan (or lack thereof).

Insanely Yours,
